Where Will Registrants For New gTLD’s Come From?

Where Will Registrants For New gTLD's Come From? by Michael Berkens Last week Andrew from DomainNameWire asked in a blog post "Whats The Market Size For A Top Level Domain".  The post basically asked where are the new gTLD's going to get their registrants from, so I thought I would join the conversation. Here is where I see registrations for new gTLD's coming from: Domainers  Yes […] Read more of this post Michael Berkens | July 31, 2013 at 11:49 am | Categories: New gTLD's | URL: http://wp.me/pgbbY-ciy

New gTLDs Will…

New gTLD domain names are a source of discussion and debate throughout the domain investment space. Off the top of my head, I can’t really think of a more polarizing topic related to domain names.

Last week, I reached out to a random group of colleagues to get their feedback on the new gTLD domain names that will be rolling out soon. I asked them to complete the following sentence using 5 of their own words or less: “gTLDs will…” As you can see below, the responses run the gamut.

Frank Schilling planning a domain name conference?

Frank Schilling planning a domain name conference? by Andrew Allemann Schilling files trademark application related to domain conferences. Is Frank Schilling planning to hold domain name conferences in the future? The thought has at least crossed his mind - if not gone further. George Kirikos spotted that Schilling filed an intent-to-use trademark application (pdf) for iNEX back in April. Here's the class of goods listed on the application: Educational services, namely, arranging and organizing conferences in the field of internet domain names Given that Schilling has made the move from managing just his portfolio to offering services via DomainNameSales.com, and soon offering top level domains to the public, a "user conference" would be a smart move. I suspect it would be highly attended, even if it's held down in Cayman. But here's the perplexing thing: inex.com is not among Schilling's hundreds of thousands of domain names. I reached out to Schilling for comment and will update this story when I hear back. Someone is buying up villa and villas domain names

Andrew Allemann posted: "" New post on Domain Name Wire Someone is buying up villa and villas domain names by Andrew Allemann Pay attention if you get an offer to buy a domain with "villa" in it. If someone contacts you about buying your villa.tld or villas.tld domain name, you might want to do some digging. A Mark Monitor client appears to be on a quest to buy up some of these domains. On July 6 the company's "privacy" service DNStinations became the owner of Villa.me. The company also recently hand registered villa.am and villa.sh. It also acquired the domain name Villas.biz (plural). It doesn't look like Villa.com or Villas.com have changed hands recently. Both have whois privacy, but I suspect they're owned by the same company as they're at the same registrar, both are parked at Bodis, and the historical whois points to the same domain investor. Donuts has applied for the top level domain .villas. It will be interesting to see who is behind the recent acquisitions.
